Gabriella Grimes or ggggrimes as they’re known on IG is a 23-year-old Black queer artist from New York City.
Their work focuses on portraying people of color, many of whom are queer. One of ggggrimes’ goals is challenging common perceptions of race, gender, and sexuality in the western world.
They want their viewers to question society’s rigid views of the gender binary, and why individuals expect artists to adhere to this binary. ggggrimes is inspired by queer predecessors and current activists to help young queer people understand that they’re valid and their existence is important.
Similarly, they acknowledge the humanity of people of color in their artwork, showing them hurting, healing, and simply living happily.
